Lenovo IdeaPad Y500 vs HP Envy x2;Which on is User Choice?

W.A.Khan,                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                    Lenovo IdeaPad Y500                                                                                                                                                                 The Lenovo IdeaPad Y500 offers high-end components, including gamer-level graphics, a swappable accessory bay, and the coolest-looking backlit keyboard I've seen in a long while.
But, If only the Y500 had a touch screen, which is practically required for the Windows 8 UI, it might be one of my favorite laptops of the year.
The bottom line: For those looking for something more than a feature-light ultrabook, the gamer-friendly Lenovo IdeaPad Y500 is close to brilliant, and several configurations are currently available at a deep discount -- but I can't believe it doesn't have a touch screen.                                                                                                                                                                                Specifications

It has excellent battery life, and works just as well as a laptop as it does as a tablet.
But, The laptop mode is top-heavy, and the awkward tablet detachment mechanism isn’t perfect; it has limited ports; and a slower Atom processor means in performance it's far behind most ultrabooks, even though it’s priced like one.
The bottom line: The HP Envy x2’s capacity to be a full Windows 8 tablet or dock with a keyboard works as well as advertised, provided you’re willing to live with slower performance at a high price. You’re paying for style.

Microsoft Surface Pro vs Samsung ATIV Smart PC Pro 700T;Who is Hot Cake?

W.A.Khan,                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                Microsoft Surface Pro                                                                                                                                                                 The Microsoft Surface Pro fits a full ultrabook experience in a compact 10-inch tablet. Thanks to the ingenious Type and Touch covers, it offers a comfortable interface and typing experience. The clean, crisp design and sharp 1080p screen rise above the competition.
But, The battery life is disappointing, and more ports would be nice. The 64GB model barely has any free storage. It costs as much as a regular laptop, especially because the cool keyboard cover isn't included by default.
The bottom line: The Surface Pro's gutsy design successfully reinvents the Windows 8 laptop by cramming an ultrabook experience into the body of a 10-inch tablet. Those wanting to go all-in on the tablet experience won't regret buying the Surface Pro, but we're holding out for a future, more polished generation of the device.

But, Battery life isn’t great for a tablet; it lacks laptop-style features like Ethernet and a standard SD card slot; plus, it’s even more expensive than the Surface Pro.
The bottom line: The Samsung ATIV Smart PC Pro 700T walks the line between ultrabook-level laptop and tablet, but doesn’t truly excel at either.                                                                                                                                                                        Specifications

Acer Iconia W700 vs Dell Latitude 10;Which is Best Performer?

W.A.Khan,                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                      Acer Iconia W700                                                                                                                                                                                  The Acer Iconia W700 can work as a tablet or a small desktop, and it has a high-res screen and excellent battery life.
But, The non-adjustable stand limits viewing angles, and you'll need an external mouse or touch pad for efficient Windows navigation.
The bottom line: One of the only Core i5 slate-style Windows 8 systems we've seen, the Acer Iconia W700 asks few compromises for full-time use, but the design isn't for everyone.                                                                                                                    Specifications

But, With an Intel Atom processor, performance is limited, and some apps seem far better optimized for the hardware than others. Storage is limited to 64GB, and USB connections are all the slower 2.0 type.
The bottom line: The price difference between an Atom tablet such as the Dell Latitude 10 and a Core i5 one doesn't seem large enough to justify the performance gap. But, the Latitude 10 makes up for it in part with a very long-lasting battery.

Samsung Chromebook Series 3 vs Acer C7 Chromebook ;Who is the Best?

But, The Chromebook's low price comes out in its build quality and performance.
The bottom line: The $249 Samsung Chromebook is a good extra computer for cloud-loving Google-centric Web users.            Specifications

It boots up quickly and is simple to use.
But, Saddled with an ugly design, finicky touch pad, and short battery life, this feels like a far cry even from most budget laptops. The Chrome OS is still too limiting, though it's made some strides in a year.
The bottom line: At $199, the Acer C7 is an attractive proposition for anyone looking for a supercheap portable laptop, but the Chrome OS and short battery life mean you'll have to accept a lot of compromises.                                                                         Specifications

Razer Edge Pro vs Lenovo IdeaPad Y500;Winner is..............

But, Gaming performance trails that of comparably priced gaming laptops; lacks 1080p screen; design is thicker and heavier than other Windows 8 tablets; lacks Ethernet and SD slot; battery life runs short when gaming; price skews high when accessories are factored in.
The bottom line: The Razer Edge is one of the most inventive PC gaming devices in years, but you'll pay a premium for portability and proprietary add-ons.                                                                                                                                                                   Specifications

Lenovo IdeaPad Yoga 11 vs Microsoft Surface RT;Who is Hot Cake?

W.A.Khan,                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                   Lenovo IdeaPad Yoga 11                                                                                                                          The Lenovo IdeaPad Yoga 11 works as a laptop alternative, thanks to its always-attached keyboard and myriad useful ports, and its physical flexibility provides useful ergonomic options. Its battery charges quickly and depletes slowly. Brightness shortcuts on the keyboard unearth a normally buried option in Windows RT.
But, As a tablet, the device is too bulky and heavy to hold in your hands, and its Web performance is slow. A full Windows 8 version with updated specs will be available soon for only $150 more.
The bottom line: The Lenovo IdeaPad Yoga 11 is a great laptop alternative that's unfortunately too bulky to completely replace your tablet.                                                                                                                                                                                  Specifications

The tablet feels strong and well-built, runs Office 2013, and includes rich video and music services. Its keyboard cover accessories are the best ways to type on a tablet, period.
But, The tablet's performance can be sluggish, its Windows Store is a ghost town, Metro takes getting used to, and the Desktop interface feels clunky and useless.
The bottom line: If you're an early adopter willing to forget everything you know about navigating a computer, the Surface tablet could replace your laptop. HP Envy Spectre XT 13-2050nr vs Dell XPS 12 ;Better is.................

W,A,Khan,                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                    HP Envy Spectre XT 13-2050nr                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                 Slim and lightweight, the HP Envy Spectre XT is portable, well-built, and easy to use, with a great keyboard.
But, The design doesn't stand out as much as the original Spectre's did, and its battery life won't get you through an entire day. From a premium product, we'd expect a higher screen resolution.
The bottom line: A high-end laptop at a mainstream price, the HP Envy Spectre XT gets much of the look and feel right, with only a few missteps.

But, For all the hype about touch and tablets with Windows 8, the XPS 12 still works better as a laptop than as a slate. Its battery life is on the low side.
The bottom line: Dell has revamped its rotating Duo laptop concept into the much-improved XPS 12, but like most convertibles, it makes a better laptop than tablet.

Samsung Galaxy Note 8 vs Apple iPad 2;Who is the Best?

W.A.Khan,                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                     Samsung Galaxy Note 8                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                  The Samsung Galaxy Note 8 is comfortable to hold and has the best-looking small tablet screen yet. Writing with the S Pen feels natural and is preferred over typing on a tablet screen. Storage can be expanded via microSD, and the Watch On feature has potential as a universal remote/video content hub.
But, The $399 price is a lot for a small tablet, no matter its features. It's not as thin or as light as the iPad Mini, and some people won't appreciate the highly saturated look of the OS. Also, its face buttons sometimes get in the way and there are occasional performance hangs.
The bottom line: The Samsung Galaxy Note 8 is a stunning tablet with a truly useful stylus, but it's not worth $400 unless you're an artist or prefer pen input.                                                                                                                                                      Specifications

But, The iPad's screen resolution hasn't budged, photo quality is mediocre, there's still no Adobe Flash support, and ports for HDMI, USB, and SD all require adapters.
The bottom line: The iPad 2 refines an already excellent product. Its easy-to-use interface, vast app catalog, and marathon battery life bolster Apple's claim to being the king of tablets.                                                                                                                Specifications

Lenovo IdeaPad Yoga 11 vs Asus Transformer Pad Infinity TF700;Better is.................

Also, apps launch quickly, GPS works well, and its rear camera is the best I've seen on any Android tablet. The tablet's body has the same great thin and light design as the Prime.
But, So far, not enough Android apps take advantage of the TF700's higher pixel count. Also, its battery life isn't as good as the Prime's.
The bottom line: The Asus Transformer Pad Infinity TF700 is one of the fastest Android tablets out there, combining an already proven design with a better camera, a faster processor, and a beautiful screen.                                                                                                                                                                                                       Specifications

Google Nexus 10 vs Lenovo ThinkPad Tablet ;Who is Winner?

W.A.Khan,                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                             Google Nexus 10                                                                                                                                          The Nexus 10 has a beautifully sharp screen. It's light, durable, and has the fastest processor of any Android tablet. Photo Sphere is an incredibly cool concept. Google's content ecosystem is only getting better.
But, The included charger isn't fast enough to power the battery while playing a game; even while idle, it charges painfully slowly. There's no storage expansion option, and apps that take full advantage of the screen are currently few and far between. Navigating isn't quite as seamless as on the Nexus 7.
The bottom line: The Nexus 10's superior design and swift performance make it one of the best Android tablets to date.        Specifications

But, The tablet is relatively thick and heavy, with unnecessary navigation buttons and uninspired Android interface optimizations.
The bottom line: If your IT department could design a tablet, the Lenovo ThinkPad Tablet would be it.                              Specifications

HP Envy x2 vs Lenovo ThinkPad Twist ;Best is......................

W.A.Khan                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                       HP Envy x2                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                       The HP Envy x2 has a clean, comfortable design and feels lightweight in tablet form.

But, The screen accelerometer can have a mind of its own, flipping into portrait view randomly. Battery life is merely OK, and the screen resolution is low for a modern laptop/tablet convertible.
The bottom line: Slightly less conservative-feeling than the average ThinkPad, the well-made ThinkPad Twist offers one of the better tablet modes from the first wave of Windows 8 convertibles.

The screen's dimensions elegantly display larger-format magazines and apps.

But, The iPad Mini costs too much, especially considering the lower resolution of its 7.9-inch non-Retina Display. The A5 processor isn't as robust as the one in the fourth-gen iPad and iPhone 5. Typing on the smaller screen is not quite as comfy.

The bottom line: If you want the full, polished Apple tablet experience in a smaller package, the iPad Mini is worth the premium price. Otherwise, good alternatives are available for less money.                                                                                                                                                                                                                  Specifications

Android 4.2 adds some welcome and useful features.

But, Android still needs more tablet-optimized apps, newer games have frame rate issues, and HSPA+ speeds seem particularly location-dependent.

The bottom line: With its excellent design, useful software features, and low starting price, the Nexus 7 is the cheapest way to experience the best that the Android OS has to offer.                                                                                                                                                                                                                                Specifications
